What is the social security medical observation period
New participants who have not previously participated in the social security program are generally subject to a six-month observation period, during which medical expenses incurred during the observation period are not reimbursed. One of the purposes of this is to prevent some people from not enrolling only when they need to be reimbursed.
The observation period for health insurance is usually six months. However, since medical insurance is municipally coordinated, the length of the observation period may vary from place to place. We recommend that you check with your local social security organization, or call 12333 during business hours to inquire about the length of the observation period in your area.
