As of March 8, 2020, Gushi County is still a subordinate county of Xinyang City, and there is no city. Gushi is located in the southeast of Henan, at the junction of Henan and Anhui provinces, with Huaihe River in the north and Dabie Mountain in the south. The county covers an area of 2,946 square kilometers and governs 30 townships and 3 sub-district offices. It is the most populous county and agricultural county in Henan Province, and it is also one of the five regional central cities determined by the province to accelerate development, and one of the ten pilot counties for the reform of the system of directly governing counties.

Gushi is a unique portal. Gushi is the southeast gate of Henan facing east China and the bridgehead of "introducing east to west".
