American immigrants in Haidian
I also know many parents in Haidian, but to be honest, my impression of parents in Haidian is still somewhat different from these labels. In order to let everyone see Haidian parents and Haidian education from another angle, I found 20 Haidian mothers and chatted with them about their children's study life and their views on education.
As we all know, primary schools in Beijing are divided into "first class, first class, second class and second class". The 20 families I found this time basically ranged from first-class to second-class, including Niu Wa who successfully entered ZPP.
Because some chat records are messy, and some are phone calls, I can't give you screenshots, so I probably sorted out a few representative families and representative questions, and the others that I didn't show are basically the same as them.
What is the life of Haidian Wa?
Yiyi's mother:
School: second-rate, second-class
Grade: Grade Three
On-campus study: there is not much homework. I do my homework after studying outside class every day. I can read early and then sleep straight into the night.
Extra-curricular study arrangements:
Monday 16: 30- 18: 00 ballet
Tuesday17: 00-17: 45 Latin class.
Wednesday 17: 00- 19: 30 English
Friday 17: 30- 19: 00 Latin class
You can roller-skate from 8: 00 to 9: 30 on Saturday.
Probably we are an ordinary school in Haidian, so there is no such thing as a legendary chicken baby around us. Yi Yi's father and I are both busy, so we are basically interested and willing to educate.
The requirement for her is to study well in the main subjects at school, with a level of 85-90 points, and lay a good foundation. English and reading don't engage in various exam competitions, but they never give up.
In Haidian, I did meet many families who attached great importance to subjects, but our family always thought that good health was the foundation of everything, so we arranged many cultural and sports projects instead. Many students dropped out of various cultural and sports classes in the third grade, but we have always insisted that, first, children like it and are happy in every class, and second, they can keep fit and can't delay any time. Why not?
Mom Myers:
School: private.
Grade: Grade two
On-campus study: the subject assignments are basically completed at school, and there are many open-ended assignments, some of which are simply for parents.
Extra-curricular study arrangements:
Monday: Vocal Music
Tuesday: Calligraphy
Wednesday: review class
Thursday: Math
Saturday: Street Dance
Many extracurricular classes are extended classes of the school, so they signed up for a street dance, and children like it.
At the beginning, I went to a private school, because I was not a Beijing citizen and couldn't go to a public school. Second, I had emigrated at that time and was going to let my children go out in high school, so there was no pressure for the college entrance examination.
Probably what I always want is to let my children go abroad, and there are similar parents around me, so what everyone values most is English level, and other subjects are more interesting with children. However, due to the epidemic in the past two years, I am hesitant to go out in the future. If not, in order to cope with the college entrance examination, I have to enroll my children in subject courses.
Xin Kai's mother:
School: first-class and second-class
Grade: Grade 4
On-campus study: the workload is normal. If you do it seriously, it will be less than 1 hour at most. If you dawdle ... you will get angry.
Extra-curricular study arrangements:
Monday: Calligraphy
Tuesday: Tennis+Whale Small Class
Wednesday: China Goss
Friday: Gaosi Mathematics
Sunday: tennis+piano
In the first and second grades, school work is easier and there are other classes. But after the third grade, time was tight, so the art class was reduced and the piano was reduced to one lesson a week. Gauss mathematics was originally taught online, but now it is all online. I'm going to enroll my children in a Chinese class, mainly to strengthen writing.
We used to believe in Buddhism, but after the new school district, there were several counterpart middle schools. In addition, I heard that the admission rate of the senior high school entrance examination will decrease in the future, so I am nervous now. I want to try my best to get into a key middle school or at least an experimental class in an ordinary middle school.
Happy mother:
School: first-class and second-class
Grade: the eldest is in the third grade and the second is in the big class.
On-campus study: homework is normal, occasionally a little more, generally speaking, it doesn't take much time.
Extra-curricular study arrangements:
Monday: basketball+English class on campus.
Wednesday: Campus Art
Saturday: Swimming+Math Online
My relatives and friends often ask me about Jiwa, probably because my father and I both graduated from Tsinghua with a master's degree, so we will have a lot of experience. But we are really not chickens, probably because our children are intolerant of chickens.
I have met lovely parents, and sometimes we feel really different when chatting. Basically, they are always with each other. One parent takes turns, and even the elderly accompany classes, find teachers, teach in small classes, and learn many extracurricular classes. I don't think I can do it. Since I can't do it, I don't want to keep asking children.
Besides, I think some chick dolls are really a little too much. For example, next door to our house, we slept until midnight and heard our mother throw a vase and scold the child. And our colleagues, who were admitted to famous schools from Shandong before. They were particularly bitter at that time, so they were very demanding of their children. I have just entered primary school, and feel that I will not sleep until 1 1. I should learn French, piano, violin and equestrian in synchronization with American primary education.
I can understand his feelings. Speaking of children, he's really good. He's a bully, but is it really good for children's future development? I don't know about this either, but I hope not.
To say that our only requirement for children may be reading, fortunately, at present, the boss loves reading very much and has this atmosphere with the second child, which makes us very pleased.
Ran Xu's mother:
School: first-class class
Grade: Grade two
On-campus study: not much, all the children have finished their studies at school.
Extra-curricular study arrangements:
Monday: Go+ English
Tuesday: Math+Chinese
Wednesday: Tennis+English
Thursday: Chinese
Friday: Calligraphy
Saturday: violin+math
In addition to this arrangement, he usually punches in and reads books before going to bed, and there will be random composition exercises on Thursday and Friday.
Personally, I think children must be urged. There are so many places in a good school, how can you win without hard work? Maybe I am the legendary "chicken baby" mother. But don't feel tired. Persistence is a basic quality of life. Today's children don't understand, maybe it will be more difficult when they grow up. Moreover, I firmly believe that hard work will pay off. When a child has achieved due results through hard work, he will also have a sense of accomplishment.
Haidian education is as different as everyone thinks.
In fact, you can find that Haidian education is the same as everyone thinks, but it is not the same.
Similarly, the legendary chicken baby, saving classes, cultivating excellent students and various curriculum arrangements all exist.
But this is not the whole of Haidian education.
Every place and every region will have parents who are chicken babies and parents who are not chicken babies, and Haidian District is no exception.
Just like the above-mentioned families, they all have their own situations and views on education, and there is no unified standard.
So I have always said that there is nothing wrong with the chicken baby itself, but we can't pursue it as a unified goal, let alone promote it as a value. It should be noted that even in Haidian, which is labeled as a chicken baby, not everyone is practicing this road of education. Our parents must understand their children and help them find their own educational planning and learning methods.
Why is Haidian labeled as "Chicken Baby"
Why do people always think that Haidian is synonymous with "chicken baby"? This is actually related to the education situation in Haidian itself.
In Haidian, there are several excellent middle schools called Liu Xiaoqiang. How powerful is Liu Xiaoqiang? There is a middle school attached to the National People's Congress, and the number of students admitted to Tsinghua Peking University every year is 100+.
Good school. Who doesn't want children to go? Liu Xiaoqiang is facing the all-Beijing exam, and there are few places to carve, so the competition among children in Haidian is even greater.
In addition, there is another difference between Haidian and Xicheng and Dongcheng, that is, the gap between schools is too big. If you can't attend private schools in Liu Xiaoqiang and Liu Xiaoqiang, the rest of the schools may not be satisfactory.
On the one hand, it is yearning for good schools, on the other hand, it is fear of poor schools, which has caused some parents in Haidian to become standard parents.
Compared with "chicken baby", these points of Haidian education are worth learning.
But in fact, "chicken baby" should not be the label of Haidian education. On the contrary, from these 20 Haidian mothers, I found many educational viewpoints worth thinking about and learning from.
1 Attach importance to education
Both Jiwa's mother and the Buddha's mother I interviewed basically have * * * similarities, and they all attach great importance to education.
This is actually not difficult to understand.
In addition to the old Haidian people who lived here the previous generation, Zhongguancun is the settlement of the first batch of new Haidian people. Generally, 985,211graduates from all over the country were admitted to Beijing. Through their own efforts, they enjoyed the dividend brought by education.
Therefore, in such a family, education must be the most valued. From the interview I wrote above, it can be seen that even Buddhist families are not really stocked. Although some families don't put the top-notch goal of their subjects in the first place, they still have requirements for the growth of their children's comprehensive ability.
So don't be biased by "chicken baby" and don't be confused by "Buddhism".
Either way, education is an indispensable family responsibility.
Ask yourself more and ask your children less.
Among the mothers I interviewed in Haidian, Ran Xu's mother is the most typical one.
But she definitely didn't just ask the mother.
I know that she previews every class in advance, predicts where children may have learning difficulties, and then finds different ways to help them solve them. In order to have a good English environment, she will take oral lessons by herself, and then prepare to talk with Ran Xu anytime and anywhere.
Although other mothers don't spend so much effort to study with their children, they basically agree that they are role models for their children, so they will persist in studying for a long time, take their work seriously, and let their children feel the power of progress from themselves.
Pay attention to reading
Although I have only talked to 20 mothers, it happens that reading will be included in their requirements for their children.
Reading is actually a cliche. I very much hope that Warm can have a very good reading habit.
But recently, one thing has made me feel more deeply. Recently, I have been accompanying Wen to have a Chinese class. The knowledge of Chinese teachers and the accumulation of various classics are very rich, which has turned a children's Chinese class into a warm speech that grandma and I can listen to with ecstasy. When I really visited the teacher, I found him more interesting in person than in class.
Therefore, reading is not only useful, but more importantly, it will make life and life more interesting, richer and heavier.
So after meeting this teacher, I hurried home to make up two boxes of books.
4 the ability of time planning
When interviewing these 20 mothers, I set a question, how to arrange the children after class.
To my great surprise, almost everyone of them gave a very detailed timetable. If there is any change, plan B.
Because of space reasons, I didn't write it all. If necessary, I will show you an article separately next time and ask them for some time management methods.
I have to say that time management is really a very important practical ability for families with students. To tell the truth, I didn't plan the warm time so carefully, so I also plan to learn from the mothers in Haidian.
In fact, after talking to these 20 mothers, I have been thinking, what is the real Haidian education like?
These days, I didn't think of a standard answer.
But when I was combing and writing this article, I found that perhaps the real Haidian education is actually an education that breaks the label.
Although I only interviewed 20 people, it is far from representing all of Haidian.
But among these 20 people, I got different views and methods.
Education itself has no uniform standards and answers, and there is no method suitable for all children. Compared with us, the children of the warm generation live in a wider world and have greater choices and freedom for the future.
Seeing the energy of learning and education itself may be the most powerful place in Haidian education.
