2007 "Forbes" Global Billionaires Ranking
On March 8, "Forbes" magazine announced the ranking of the world's richest people with a net worth of more than one billion US dollars. In 2007, there were 946 billionaires in the world with a net worth of more than one billion US dollars. There are three Americans, one Mexican, one Swede, one Indian, one French, one Spanish, one Canadian and one Hong Konger in the top ten. With a net worth of US$56 billion, Bill Gates has become the world's richest man for the 13th time in a row. Two-thirds of billionaires became richer last year. Only 17% lost value, and 32 of them fell below the $3 billion mark. The total net worth of billionaires increased to US$3.5 trillion, an increase of US$900 billion from last year. This is equivalent to an average of 3.6 billion yuan per person. Among billionaires, Americans account for 44% of the total. This year there are 178 newcomers to the rankings, including 19 Russians, 14 Indians, 13 Chinese and 10 Spaniards, as well as the first billionaires from Cyprus, Oman, Romania and Serbia. Among the richest people with assets of more than one billion US dollars, there are 20 people from mainland China, 21 people from Hong Kong, China, and 8 people from Taiwan, China.
