The formation process of Chaozhou dialect;

Chaozhou dialect, also known as Chaozhou dialect and Chaoshan dialect, commonly known as "Fulao dialect", is a sub-dialect of Minnan dialect, one of the eight major language families of Chinese dialect, which is distributed in Chaoshan area on the eastern coast of Guangdong Province and belongs to all districts and counties of Chaozhou City.

The formation of Chaozhou dialect has a historical process. From Sui and Tang Dynasties to Song Dynasty, Chaozhou began to be civilized on a large scale, which made the local dialect influenced by Chinese in the Central Plains and evolved in the direction of sinicization.

After the Song Dynasty, with the influx of large-scale immigrants and the development of Chaozhou economy, the culture continued to develop, and the eastern Guangdong region centered on Chaozhou accelerated the pace of differentiation from Chaozhou dialect to Fujian dialect. After the Ming Dynasty, Chaozhou dialect was completely separated from Fujian dialect and became an independent sub-dialect.
