Ancestral land is an important part of China traditional culture, and its history can be traced back to the patriarchal clan system in Xia Dynasty. Patriarchal system is based on paternal descent; On this basis, maintain the bloodline of this family. And under the development of patriarchal clan system, a series of manifestations such as genealogy, ancestral hall and clan rules have emerged, and ancestral houses are one of them.

Generally speaking, ancestral home refers to the place where paternal ancestors (ancestors) lived for a long time. After leaving the ancestral home, later generations called it the ancestral home in memory of their ancestors. It reflects the Han people's respect for the patriarchal clan system and ancestors.

_ Guanzi Tailu: One saint is the son of heaven, the other is the three princes, the highest one is the vassal, and the surname Yi is the king. Those who don't take their ancestral home as the king should also have the same good sense of security.

In order to find out from which generation the ancestral home should be counted, we must understand another concept: native place.

Native place refers to the place where parents or grandparents live today, that is, the place of household registration, within three generations.

It is not difficult to find that the age involved in the native place is generally within three generations, while the age involved in the ancestral place is more than three generations. Two things will happen here.

First of all, ancestral home and native place are in the same place, which mainly refers to those families who have lived in the same place for generations, and have not been forced to leave their current residence and move to other places because of factors such as war and natural disasters. Of course, this situation is very rare. In the history of thousands of years in China, there have been many cases of emigration due to war. For example, the Five Rebellions in China, the Anshi Rebellion, and the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties were all relatively large-scale immigration periods in history, not to mention frequent natural disasters.

The second situation is more common, that is, ancestral home and native place are not in the same place. This is the result of ancient immigrants. During the Luanhua and Anshi Rebellion, a large number of northern people moved south to escape the war, which became the famous "Hong Tong Sophora japonica" in the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. Immigrants moved a large number of people from Shanxi to the Central Plains, where there was a serious population loss due to the war. In other words, many people in the Central Plains have their ancestral homes in Shanxi.

In this way, it is more obvious as to which generation the ancestral home should be counted from. The ancestral home can be counted from any generation before three generations, but there is a premise that the place of residence has changed. If there is no change, ancestral home and native place are the same place. If it has been changed, the ancestral home should be counted from the generation where the residence was changed.
